Meet Dr. VanGessel
Dr. VanGessel graduated from the Indiana University School of Optometry. Prior to receiving his Doctorate of Optometry, he attended Indiana University Bloomington where he studied biology for three years before becoming early admit to the Indiana School of Optometry. While attending optometry school, he served as the President of the American Optometric Student Association at IU, where he represented his classmates and colleagues at state and national AOA meetings in Washington, DC and Boston, MA. He was also a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, an optometric honor society, and the Gold Key Society, an optometric leadership and service honor society. He also was an active member of Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity, where he served the eyecare needs of the residents of Negril, Jamaica and Indiana Special Olympic athletes. Dr. VanGessel completed four externships during his fourth year of optometry school which included a U.S. Navy Clinic, an ocular disease referral clinic in Indianapolis, the Huntington West Virginia V.A. hospital, and another I.U eye care center where he received specialized training in ocular disease, binocular vision, pediatrics, & contact lenses.
Dr. VanGessel is originally from Avilla, Indiana and graduated from East Noble High School in 2012. He is excited to return to Northern Indiana to be close to family & be an integral part of a private optometry practice. In his spare time, he enjoys playing ice hockey, soccer, helping his family on their grain farm, and spending time with his friends and family.
